ACLED (Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project)acleddata.com
Social Sciences
62 datasets
Social science data is built on surveys, event records and country indicators. Long-running surveys here include the General Social Survey since 1972, the European Social Survey, the German Social Survey, the International Social Survey Program and Pew Research data collections. Conflict and political data comes from ACLED, the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, Correlates of War, the Center for Systemic Peace, the Mass Mobilization Data Project and GDELT.
Inequality and population sources include the World Inequality Database, WorldPop and the Minnesota Population Center, and the Humanitarian Data Exchange and OpenSanctions are listed too. Most survey archives ask for a free registration and acceptance of terms, and ACLED requires an account to download. Use the documented sampling weights when estimating population figures, and read the codebook, since question wording and coding change between waves. Event datasets built from news reports reflect media coverage, so gaps in reporting can look like gaps in events.
